Osmotically sensitive Brucella in infected normal and immune macrophages.

When Brucella suis is grown in tissue cultures of normal guinea pig macrophages, the Brucella multiplies significantly without the induction of osmotically sensitive forms. In immune macrophages in the presence of normal guinea pig serum, there is a reduction in the number of intracellular Brucella and no multiplication is seen over a 72-hr period. After 6 hr of exposure to immune macrophages, ...

Serum-mediated immune cellular responses to Brucella melitensis. IV. Infection of macrophages under anaerobic conditions.

Immune mechanisms active against Brucella were studied under conditions of oxygen deficiency. B. melitensis grew in rabbit serum-Tyrode medium flooded with N(2) and CO(2) gas mixtures. Immune sera from rabbits injected with B. melitensis strain Rev I possessed growth-inhibitory activity that operated in anaerobic environments against Rev I and virulent strain 6015. When mixed with macrophages, ...

The Assessment of Cytokine and Antibody Responses to Recombinant 31kDa Brucella Cell-Surface Protein in Brucella Abortus Infected Mouse Model

Background & Objective: One of the most common diseases between zoonosis - especially in developing countries – is brucellosis. Identification of Brucella cell antigen combinations in terms of the amount and type of immune response in infected hosts, are important in vaccine design. 31kDa Brucella cell surface protein (BCSP31) is shared among all Brucellae. We aimed to define specific immune r...

In Vitro Antibacterial Effects of Five Volatile Oil Ex-tracts Against Intramacrophage Brucella Abortus 544

Background: Brucella abortus is a gram-negative facultative intracellular bacterium that can cause a highly contagious disease in sheep, goats, cattle and one-humped camels. It is responsible for one of the most important zoonosis in human. The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of Mentha piperita, Origanum majorana, Citrus lemon, Cinnamomum verum and Myristica fragrans essential volati...

Comparative protection of mice against virulent and attenuated strains of Brucella abortus by passive transfer of immune T cells or serum.

Passively transferred immune serum provided significantly greater protection to BALB/c mice against attenuated Brucella abortus 19 than against virulent strain 2308, whether serum donors had been infected with strain 19 or 2308. In contrast, immune T cells conferred better protection upon recipients challenged with the homologous strain of B. abortus. It is hypothesized that strain 2308, but no...
